This entire merit badge will be offered; it would greatly help in completing this merit badge if a scout would read the book beforehand, and fill out what he can on the worksheet. Then bring the worksheet to show a counselor.

Space Exploration MB Requirements

Req# 3 – PARTIAL ONLY – Scouts will learn NAR Safety rules for model rocketry,
built a model rocket and launch it once.
[To complete this req., scout must do a 2nd launch at a later date]. 

Instructor Tim Morris will discuss some of the rest of this merit badge. Note-taking is recommended for the scout to use with a counselor at a later date.

Displays and Demonstrations will cover the following Requirements: 
#1, #2, #3-a.b.c.

“How to read a Star Chart” presentations will show how to do:
#4-a.b.c.d.

Displays will introduce:
#5-a. and #7-c. d.

 “How to Sketch What You See” display will show how to do:
#6, #7-a.b.

Informational displays will show:
#8-a. and b.

A handout will be available with many great websites to help with:
#5-b.
Ideas will be shared for completing:
#9 as well as counselor contact information will be included.

Displays will show ideas for:
#10.

Interested scouts should come prepared to take notes from what they see so they can go over the requirements with a counselor at a later date. Skills needed for observing (for Reqs.#4-a.b.c., #6, #7-a.b.) will be discussed. Most of the observing could be done in 1 night at a Troop star party, or perhaps attend an Observing session at the Nature Center with the Kalamazoo Astronomical Society-check their schedule @ kasonline.org
